The American Immigration Council led a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas urging him to ensure that surviving victims of the San Antonio tragedy—where over 50 people were found dead in migrant-smuggling operation—are not subject to further traumatization by being placed into immigration detention and possibly deported or expelled. The American Immigration Council and 102 other organizations from across North America urges the Secretary to ensure that any survivors of the tragedy in San Antonio are paroled into the United States and given assistance in applying for protection in the form of a U visa, T visa, or asylum.
